About the Department

Mechanical Technology was from inception in 1978 a section in the department of N.C.E. Technical, in the school of science and technology (SST) in the then plateau state college of technology. When the college was upgraded into a polytechnic, the department of N.C.E. Technical was also upgraded to school of technical education (STE) with four departments among which is the department of Mechanical Technology. The department runs two programmes leading to the award of Nigeria certificate of education (NCE) Technical in the following options:
i. Automobile technology
ii. Metalwork technology

The mission and vision of the department of Mechanical Technology is to produced competent Technical Teachers with specialization in automobile and metalwork technology who will be able to teach basic technology in our junior secondary schools, production of middle level manpower for our industries through the training of automobile and metalwork technicians, and the production of qualified graduate for admission into university for further studies in engineering, technology education and engineering education globally.
