BRIEF HISTORY The Department of Tourism Management Technology was established in 1993, then called the department of Tourism Studies then later Leisure and Tourism Management before its current name. It was carved out of the then Department of Hotel, Catering and Tourism Management now Hospitality Management Technology. The Department was established in order to tap into the Tourist potentials in Plateau State through man power training in the area if acquisition of skills necessary to enable them contribute effectively towards planning, promoting, financing, implementing and organizing the development of the Tourism industry in Nigeria and elsewhere. PROGRAMME OFFERED The Department currently offers Tourism Management Technology at both National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) ENTRY REQUIREMENT Entry requirement for the National Diploma in Tourism Management Technology programme include the required cut-off points in the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with the Plateau State Polytechnic as the first choice of institution. At least five (5) credit passes at not more than two (2) sittings in WASSCE, SSCE, NECO, NTC, GCE ‘O’ Level, WAEC or NABTEB in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, and any two (2) from the following: Geography, Economics/Commerce, History, Marketing, Civic Education, Government, Accounting, Tourism Studies, and any other from the following: Agricultural Science, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Food and Nutrition. For the Higher National Diploma (HND), is the procession of the National Diploma (ND) in Tourism Management Technology having completed the mandatory one (1) year Industrial Training (IT). MISSION STATEMENT To achieve academic excellence and promote the furtherance of knowledge, to also seek to aid the acquisition of appropriate skills, abilities and competence; both mentally and physically to equip the students to live and contribute to the development of Tourism and the society at large.
