About the Department

A BRIEF DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY OF THE LEGAL STUDIES

The Department of Legal Studies of the Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi was carved out of the Department of General and Legal Studies, with the mandate of promoting contemporary and empiric jurisprudence which centers on the deductive and valuable legal research among participating students and lecturers.

The concept behind the creation of the Department was geared by the clarion need for the building of a solid foundation for students aspiring to be Lawyers, Law teachers, Area Court Judges, Court Registrars. The Department is concerned with the quality, integrity and ethical orientation of its graduates

MISSION AND VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department is committed to providing and maintaining a favourable learning environment for students under the tutorship of the best legal minds in the academic sphere.

The mission of the Department is to graduate Law students with unequalled intellectual knowledge with professional ethics engraved in their minds in line with the theory of a "HONEST LAWYER” propounded by Lord Denning:

“If there is one thing more important than any other in a Lawyer, it is that he should be honest. He must be honest to his client. He must be honest with his opponent. He must be honest to the court. Above all, he must be honest with himself."

The Department, though not a faculty of law still chronicles its vision within the generic scope of tutoring and graduating sound legal minds that apply Professionalism within the realm of best legal studies and research.

CREATION OF DEPARTMENT

The Department was formally created on the 1st day of June, 2012 from the Department of General Studies.
