Food Science Technology is the science that deals with the processing of plant and animal food product into raw materials so that food wastage is reduced to the barest minimum.
The Department of Food Science Technology was started in the 2018/2019 session with the National Diploma Programme. So far, 4 sets have been graduated which are 2018/2019 set (26 students), 2019/2020 set (48 students), 2020/2021 set (24 students) and the 2021/2022 set (27 students). The fifth set 2022/2023 set (17 students) are in their second semester. The Pioneer Head of Department is Dr. George S. Dasat.
To be a reputable Department that trains students in the different aspects of food processing and preservation.
To be able to produce graduates of Food Science Technology who can compete favourably with Food Scientist nationwide in their knowledge and application of the course.
National Diploma (ND) in Food Science Technology. We hope to start the Higher National Diploma (HND) programme very soon.
Five Subjects: Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Agric in SSCE/NECO at 1 or 2 sittings. JAMB Subjects: English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Agric. and candidates must chose Plateau State Polytechnic as their First Choice.
