Electrical Electronics Technology is an autonomous Department in the school of vocational and technical education (SVTE) of Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi. The department runs a three (3) academic year programme for the attainment of Nigeria certificate of Education (NCE) technical in electrical and electronics technology.
The Department was carved up from the former mechanical and electrical electronics technology department of the school in 2004 as directed by the National Commission of Colleges of Education (NCCE), during a routine accreditation visit by the commission.
a. To meet the objective of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) accreditation requirement. b. To meet the minimum requirement for registration into the following professional bodies - Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) - Nigeria Association of Teachers of Technology (NATT) - Licensed Electrical Contractors Association of Nigeria (LECAN) - Nigeria Association of Technology Engineers (NATE)
a. To provide qualified technical instructors and practitioners of technology capable of teaching the modules of vocational and basic technology in electrical/electronic works in Junior Secondary schools and technical colleges programmes b. To produce qualified technicians/technologist who have mastered and be able to apply electrical and electronics works in the industries, factories and skills acquisition centres (ITF) c. To produce graduates who will benefit for advanced placement in Degree programmes of industrial and technology education in electrical and electronics works d. To produce graduates who have good command of English language and communication skills, and an understanding of his socio-cultural, political and economic environment.
Candidates wishing to offer electrical/electronic technology at NCE Technical level must have credits in WAEC/NECO/NABTEP-NTC/Grade two teachers certificate (TC II) with credit or merit in at least five (5) subjects including mathematics and English. Three subjects must be acceptable components of electrical/electronic technology in not more than two sittings (e.g. Physics, Chemistry, Applied Electricity, Basic Electronics). WAEC Technical Certificate or City and Guilds intermediate certificate with credit/merit in radio and television works, electrical installation works, refrigeration and air conditioning and computer engineering are acceptable, plus a Federal craft certificate (FCC) with at least credits in five subjects including Mathematics and English Language. All candidates wishing to be considered for admission must meet the selection examination organized by JAMB.
