The Department of Building Technology was established during the 2005/2006 academic session. The creation of the Department was born out of the need for the creation of School of Environmental Studies and also burning desire to meet the specific needs of Technical students and craftsmen who will want to make career in this discipline. Department of Building Technology and Quantity Surveying were together and started under the department of Civil Engineering and received its full autonomy during the 2007/2008 academic session. During the 2009/2010 academic session the two Departments were separated into Building Technology Department and Quantity Surveying Department and the two received full accreditation by NBTE in 2009. The Department currently offers National Diploma certificate.
The discipline of building in higher institutions is structured to produce a graduate who combines some knowledge of every aspect of construction to become a specialist in the production management of buildings. The main principle of this programme therefore is that diploma students should be able to acquire insight into several areas of building and be given the scope to deepen their own specialist interests. The programme also provides theoretical and practical areas of construction activities which will offer the opportunity to develop the students.
